WhatsApp Will Apparently Become The Main Focus of Zuckerberg
The CEO of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg, seems to be putting more effort into WhatsApp than in the development of the metaverse. This is a surprising change considering the heavy focus of the corporation on its meta aspect of the business.
Just recently, Meta held a large meeting with employees, which came right after a wave of layouts in the company that affected thousands of people. During this meeting, Zuckerberg mentioned that WhatsApp is most likely to bring sales growth in the upcoming years.
The CEO stated that the messaging app is “probably going to be the next major pillar of our business.” It sounds like the company is taking quite a turn from its metaverse path and is becoming focused on services that are likely to bring results quite soon. The monetization of Messenger and WhatsApp is currently in its early stages. However, it is already obvious that various business features will play a significant role.
WhatsApp is currently the leading messaging app when it comes to the number of users worldwide. According to the estimates for 2020, the app boasts around $2 billion users, which is certainly a huge number. Even though ads haven’t been a part of the app with its previous owners, Meta plans to start introducing them to the service over time.
During the meeting, Zuckerberg reportedly mentioned that the company spends most of its money on employees and infrastructure support. A lot of people perceived this response as an attempt to downplay the large sums spent on the development of metaverse products. Based on the decision to focus more on WhatsApp, it is obvious that Zuckerberg took into consideration the criticism of Meta shareholders who were not too happy about the recent business strategy of the company.
