Reportedly, the release of Destiny 2: The Final Shape has been postponed to June 2024
Although 2023 may have been notable for its successful game releases, it's been harsh on many of the creators behind these exceptional experiences. Early this week, another instantiation of this issue emerged with the allegations that Bungie has laid off an undisclosed number of their staff.
This surprising revelation comes from the reputable Jason Schreier from Bloomberg, who further informs that these layoffs were carried out abruptly, taking many employees by surprise. The news was reportedly relayed internally via an email from Bungie's CEO, Pete Parsons, who informed the staff about an impending meeting containing significant information.
It appears that a considerable number of employees have been affected by these layoffs. This has been inferred from the news that two of Bungie's anticipated projects, Destiny 2: The Final Shape and Marathon, have been delayed - the former from February 27th, 2024, to June 2024 and the latter from 2024 to 2025. Despite these allegations, Bungie has not released an official statement yet. However, it is expected that a public statement will be forthcoming once the legalities and the approval from the marketing department are in place.
