Epic Games Is Interested In Collaborating With The Super Mario Franchise For A Fortnite Crossover Event
Fortnite's partnerships span a vast range of franchises, including Star Wars, Family Guy, music superstars, and a host of top-tier anime series. In constant pursuit of fresh content to entice gamers into investing their V-Bucks, Epic Games seems to always be on the lookout for the next big thing.
Yet, one elusive dream collaboration that remains out of reach, despite fan clamor, is the inclusion of Super Mario-themed skins from Nintendo. Epic Games has previously expressed interest, and Sax Persson, who oversees the Fortnite ecosystem at Epic, shed some light on the situation in a recent Axios interview. He acknowledged the high demand from players, saying, "Nintendo has their strategy, and we have our strategy, and we hope at some point [to use their characters]. Our players would love it."
The core issue lies in Nintendo's protective stance over its intellectual properties, making it improbable for them to allow iconic, family-friendly characters to be portrayed in a game featuring firearm combat, such as Fortnite. Still, with Fortnite's history of unexpected crossovers—such as bringing in Peter Griffin - it remains a testament to the idea that in the world of gaming, 'never' isn't a sure bet.
