Bane and Deathstroke: A New Era of DC Villains on the Big Screen

DC is on the verge of expanding its cinematic universe once again by potentially introducing an exciting villain duo to the big screen. Recent information indicates that a film featuring Bane and Deathstroke may be underway, promising thrilling narratives revolving around these formidable characters. News regarding this venture has surfaced from industry insiders, revealing that this collaboration is still in its infancy. At this stage, no casting or directorial decisions have been made.

However, it appears that Matthew Orton, known for his work on Captain America: Brave New World, has been selected to script the film centered on these iconic adversaries of Batman. Orton's experience also includes contributions to Marvel’s Moon Knight and serving as the creator of the recently launched Devil’s Peak series. Although details about the film's release timeline remain unknown, there are many sources of inspiration within the vast lore of both characters.

Bane boasts a rich history in live-action adaptations, first appearing in 1997’s Batman & Robin and later featuring prominently as the nemesis in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. Deathstroke, also referred to as Slade Wilson, has made his mark in various live-action formats, such as the 2018 Titans series, and had a brief appearance in 2017’s Justice League, portrayed by Joe Manganiello. If the collaboration between Bane and Deathstroke comes to fruition, it would mark yet another entry in DC's growing list of villain-focused films.

The most notable example is the critically acclaimed Joker, which starred Joaquin Phoenix and was released in 2019. A sequel to that film, Joker: Folie à Deux, is set to debut next week, though the prospects of a third installment remain uncertain. DC's portfolio also includes films like Black Adam, Birds of Prey, and various iterations of the Suicide Squad. As DC continues to develop its array of superhero projects, there's ample opportunity for expansion.

Gunn's Superman is slated for release in July 2025, accompanied by a Green Lantern series currently in development. Comic book enthusiasts can also anticipate arrivals like Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, The Batman Part 2, and Batman: The Brave and the Bold, alongside numerous other titles.
