NBA2K24: Slam Dunk or Miss for PC Players?
In a recent announcement filled with details about the much-awaited NBA2K24, one aspect struck a disheartening note for PC players. The confirmed inclusion of crossplay, a feature fervently desired by the gaming community, turns out to be a half-hearted promise with a significant catch. The feature will be exclusive to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X versions, leaving the PC version conspicuously behind.
This isn't the first time PC players are being handed the short end of the stick by 2K. The gaming giant has previously shipped technically inferior versions of its NBA titles to the PC platform, treating this segment of its audience with apparent disregard. This consistent pattern of behavior has led to the perception that 2K harbors a certain contempt toward its PC audience.
2K stands in stark contrast to EA, another industry titan, which had a similar approach toward its PC audience with the FIFA series. However, EA managed to rectify this with last year's FIFA 23, finally providing a PC version on par with the console releases. The persistence of 2K in withholding better versions of its games from PC players has raised questions about its commitment to this section of its user base.
On a brighter note for NBA fans, 2K revealed that the cover of NBA2K24 will feature the late, great Kobe Bryant, with a special Black Mamba edition also available, honoring Bryant's iconic nickname. The game is due to hit the shelves on September 8, but the anticipation is decidedly subdued among PC gamers.
To say that the PC gaming community feels let down by 2K would be an understatement; it's a sentiment that resurfaces every time a new NBA title is announced. Despite the stated logic of catering to the lowest minimum spec possible, the repeated delivery of inferior versions to PC players appears more like a lack of effort on 2K's part. As it stands, NBA2K24, despite its promising features, appears to be another disappointing delivery from 2K for the PC gaming community.
